Wizard1956,

One of the support guys pointed out your reply and concern about the Karma that you thought you might have lost. When you're on a forum, you'll only see karma that was given to you, for posts which are part of the website's forums that you're currently viewing. For example; The Stardock Forums have a category 'Sugar and Candy' and someone gives you karma for a reply on a post in that category. That Karma will show up on the Stardock Forums. But then say you shoot over to the Wincustomize forums and the Wincustomize Forums don't have the 'Sugar and Candy' category. The Wincustomize Forums won't reflect the karma you had recieved for your reply in that category. Now, if both of the forums share that category, then your karma for that reply will show up in both.

There is a method to this madness, and the explanation is much simpler than what I just typed: A user might be extremely helpful on say, the Stardock Forums, and deserves all the karma they can get. However, they might not visit a website like the TweakVista forums at all. So they should have lots of Karma for the Stardock Forums, but very little for the TweakVista forums.

I hope that I cleared this up a little for you. The moral of the story is that Karma will vary from site to site, but rest assured you're not losing any

<pubDateParsed>2008-05-16T06:25:54</pubDateParsed>
andrew_ on DeskScapes 2.0 Launch Support Thread

Just installed the DeskScapes 2.00.058 update and after requested system restart, my currently applied windows blind theme, Stardock Molten is acting up. The power users will find it and test it out. SDC is still the official digital distribution app. I think that once Impulse is vetted it will get more focus."

How can OD2008 be "released" if the core component is still in "Beta"?

This is really confusing: an e-mail arrives to say OD2008 is "released" and that everyone has a free upgrade, but nowhere on the website is there any mention of how to obtain it, except here. It's like it's been deliberately hidden from pre-existing customers, except for a potentially dodgy link to 'Impulse' posted by a customer, which may or may not be the current official version as far as everyone else reading this thread is concerned.

All that has happened, as far as existing installations of Stardock Central is concerned, is that it now produces an error message every time it is launched to say that the "Dreams" license cannot be validated. Everything else is the same and nothing new appears in the list of applications.

Another concern which is absent from the FAQ is the implication that users no longer have control over which applications are installed. According to the 'preview' article, applications I do not want are installed as a 'bundle', even though last time I checked not all of them were fully Windows compatible (cannot run under non-admin accounts) and the last time I tried them they were problematic (issues, unwanted clutter/complexity and system slowdown). In the end, I only want WindowsBlinds and SkinStudio to be installed, but the 'preview' article raises the question of whether this is still possible.

I think someone at Stardock should post a sticky thread about how to upgrade, and also clarify these issues.

<pubDateParsed>2008-05-16T06:25:54</pubDateParsed>
Ralph124C41 on Object Desktop 2008 Support Thread

Aaaand, I just noticed that the retail disc doesn't install Impulse - regardless of what the manual says.
There is no requirement to install Impulse. Impulse is now
at production level but it still has many tools and updates being loaded into
it. It works but is far from finished.
It still remains the best way to update and install the game for you. Also allowing

So far, I've only found the Quest one (with no indication even if it is a Premium, or just one added to give the user a MyColors theme to initially use).

b) When browsing MyColors themes, you have the demo pics looking very good, but you seem to ignore the fact that many people have widescreen PCs (and particularly laptops) these days... but you never mention if a MyColors theme has widescreen backgrounds (currently getting round it by telling it to crop top and bottom the desktop background for my 1280x800 laptop).

c) MyColors Cosmos theme has problems. Its Weather Gadget crashes when you change to a different MyColors theme (hasn't happened with the other MyColors themes I bought), when purchasing Winter Wonderland, Aquamarine, and Cosmos together, WW and Aqua both added themselves to Impulse/MyColors the moment I told them to re-login, but Cosmos refuses to appear until manually added to MyColors, it doesn't appear in the MyColors list of products to register in Impulse, and for the final point, see (d). Anyway, you get the gist.

d) There seems to be no logic to the gadgets which come with the MyColors themes. Every theme except Cosmos has come with a clock so far (why has it been left out of Cosmos?), some have Calendar but no Weather, some have Weather but no Calendar, I assume some come with Windows Media Player skins, but I've yet to see one... basically, can't we at least have a baseline of Gadgets for these themes? Clock, Calendar, and Weather are the obvious basic gadgets I'd have expected with any theme, given they are purchased.

e) Will we be getting MyColors themes with Deskscape dreams as the backgrounds?

f) for all of us not in the states, can we have some way to tell it we have no need or wish to see US University/Baseball/American Football/etc themes... ever. And giving the way the MyColors themes list is currently dominated by those, any chance of getting a lot more annual event/Inspired/etc ones to counter-act this deluge?

Gods, thats a lot more than I intended to write, but I guess its a start.

Thank you for you time and patience in developing such wonderful software, and thank you in advance for your responses.

Yours,

Ann-Marie

PS. (g) Why is it I have to tell each themes Weather Gadget my home location again... they obviously all use the same coding/gadget behind the front-end graphics, so why can't they just check for a MyColors theme global setting to see what I set as a base location?

<pubDateParsed>2008-05-16T06:25:54</pubDateParsed>
Ann-Marie Ratcliffe on Object Desktop 2008 Support Thread

Bootskin is unsupported.
LogonStudio and CursorFX aren't part of TM. Just one of those things. I guess they've never been part of the "core" of skinning.

TM should be changing WB and IP. What theme (suite) are you trying to apply?

Last question, are you talking about MyColors Theme Manager or (for lack of a better word) "classic" TM?

<pubDateParsed>2008-05-16T06:25:54</pubDateParsed>
Zubaz on Object Desktop 2008 Support Thread

Not sure if this is the right post for this or not...
