dot45,
Judging by your profile, I assume that you have not purchased the retail version of DeskScapes. If this is the case version 2.0 will not work for you and you must use 1.02.
Following these steps should fix your problem.

Uninstall deskscapes.
After uninstalling deskscapes, manually delete the "C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Deskscapes" directory and the "C:\Program Files\stardock\object desktop\deskscapes" directory if the uninstall process didn't delete them.
Reboot.
Download DeskScapes 1.02
Install DeskScapes 1.02
Reboot.
At this point it should work

Dot45 it depends on what Ultimate you are talking about. If you are talking about Vista Ultimate there is a program that will run video files built in but it isn't Stardock's Deskscapes. The Dream files that Deskscapes uses are ment to be run by Deskscapes.

Now if you have Object Desktop Ultimate then Deskscapes is part of your purchase and through Impuse or Stardock Central you can access the 2.0 version. However if you do not have the regular purchase or Object desktop then the link provided to the free download by CarGuy1 is the only real option with out spending money on the software.

The free version contains 3 dreams but it will only play the three that come with it.

i guess i was confused where the stardock website states that deskscapes is FREE for vista ultimate users. I guess they should list if its only a free demo (kinda defeats the purpose.)

I have this working fine on my other vista ultimate computer without paying for the software. I will give the instructions listed above a shot.

As stated I am running VISTA ULTIMATE on my laptop, I know dreamscenes are MS and deskscapes is stardock, I am simply trying to figure out why when installing deskscapes on my laptop, its installing the demo version of the application. Since the website states that the app is free for users of vista ultimate and i am downloading from the correct link.

Thanks CarGuy1, it worked.

I had tried reinstalling before, but didnt know about the folder that was placed into the programdata folder, maybe you guys should edit the installer to remove that on uninstall or to delete the contents if its found on install.

Hey folks,
I've got the same problem as decribed by Breathless19 WWW Link, but his solution doesn't work for me.

I've got Vista Business 64Bit SP1, the .dream-Files won't play because of "The dream may contain an invalid video type or a compatible MPEG-2 Video Decoder may not be present."

I also installed the KLite 64Bit Codec Pack, the error remains.
Any ideas?

DISREGARD PLS.
I uninstalled everything and reinstalled the codecs and the program - tadaa. It works now.

Hi,
I started a Topic before, but someone told me I should post here...Ok, once again:

I bought and installed Deskscaped 2.0 and the BlissfulDream (I have the problem with every dream, btw). After Windows boots up, I can see a still picture of the Dream (Like a Wallpaper), but it´s not moving. I can wait 10,20,30 minutes and nothing happens.

If I click on the Windows Start Menu, it starts playing, when I leave the Menu, it stops again. Also, when doing a double click on the Desktop it starts playing, too (then forever), but that´s not the way it should work.

My system
Vista Business 32
ATI Radeon x1650 hooked on my TV @ 1024x768
Cyberlink PowerDVD7

Well, I isolated the Problem:

I´m using an L.I.S.2 LCD Display in my PC. When the Software starts, It´s scanning the COM Ports for the Display. And when that happens the Dream stops playing. The Program actually starts as soon as the desktop appears, so I thought the dream never played at all.
I removed it from the startup and everything´s fine, until it started it manually.

But what have both programs (Deskscapes and the Multimedia Control Center) in commong that they interfere with each other?

If you support guys are interested, here´s the webpage from the LCD Display:

http://www.vlsys.co.kr/pds/MultimediaControlCenter_EN.php

Maybe it´s also because they don´t release an updated version for Vista?

I installed DeskScapes, and one of the included .dream files plays fine once, then plays like it's in fast forward, then a few second pause and fast forward again. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling DreamScene to no avail. Anyone know what the problem would be?

Almost forgot to mention I'm running Vista Home Premium.

Might want to redownload your codecs for Mpeg-2. Also make sure your video drivers are up to date.

As a side note if you had installed the trial then installed the full version over it try uninstalling it, restart, redownload/install the full version again.

Here is the FAQ for the codecs: http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/main_1_ENU.html

Question: I have two video cards with 3 monitors, will DeskScapes 1.02 or 2.0 work on this system.
System:
Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
4gigs of ram
NVIDIA GeForce 7800-GTX
NVIDIA GeForce 6600-GT
3 LCD Monitors

Seen a post about it but with no reply.
Sorry if it has been asked and answered.
If so please post a link.

Thanks for your time,
Dubie

Hi,

where is the free Deskscape 2.0 Download-Link for Ultimate Users. I've got an eMail from starkdock taht states that 2.0 is also free for Ultimate Users.

Part-Text from eMail:

DeskScapes 2.0, now available on all versions of Windows Vista not just Windows Ultimate, supports playing video as animated wallpaper, dynamically generated content as animated wallpaper, and more. (Windows Ultimate users can still download DeskScapes 2.0 for free.)

I am posting here in hopes of getting some straight answers since Stardock hasn't touched my ticket yet. I can not get anything in my Object Desktop Ultimate to work at all. Windows Blinds isn't showing skins properly, DeskScapes doesn't even seem to work at all, and Impulse won't connect for updates.

I have installed the following Codecs, all which have Mpeg-2 decoders:

Roxio CinePlayer DVD Decoder 1.0 for Windows Vista [recommended on microsoft.com]
Nero 8 Ultimate
Combined Community Codec Pack
K Lite Codec Pack 64-Bit
CyberLink PowerDVD 8 Ultra

I have the most up-to-date version of DirectX, my Desktop Windows Manager is running and functioning correctly, my windows Experience Score is well above the 2.0 base score (4.2 is weakest point and that is my CPU score), I have uninstalled / reinstalled the whole package numerous times to insure that it is installed correctly. Still no luck.

Whats the deal?

edit: In case this helps,

4.00 gigs of RAM
AMD Athlon 64 4000+
Asus ATi Radeon HD3850 512mb GDDR3
Vista Home Basic (from my understanding I don't necessarily need anything higher, its just helpful for codecs sake)
