Please use this thread for IconPackager v4.0 Support Issues
Published on May 13, 2008 By Zargon In IconPackager

All,

With IconPackager v4.0 being released tomorrow, I am creating this thread to house support for the newly released product.

At this time there are no known issues for either 32-bit or 64-bit.

For all of those who have reported and tested issues on 64-bit we thank you for your time and support.

Regards,

Zargon

Two major problems with IPv4.163:

1. Keeps asking for activation EVERY time!

2. File and drive icons change arbitrarily to random wrong icons no matter how much I save and back up. IP v3## used to be stable.

IconPackager v4 is a nightmare.

New IP v4.00.159 not skinned drivers iconOS XP service pack3Same problem with build 4.00.160 under Windows XP SP3 32-bits > CD-rom iconEdit: Unable to reproduce this problem with build 4.00.160 under Windows Vista SP1 32-bits except for 'Network Location' icon and 'Zip drive' icon. Not fixed under Windows XP SP3 and latest build > 4.00.163.+ problematic activation process under XP.Edit: Ticket > KIW-930507

Confirmed..

How many times do I need to activate IP and IE to get them to store the
da.. info?
It works for the app you register (you get the dialog, not automatic), not both.
It works until something is unloaded from memory, then it repeats itself.

Back to 3.99.146.. That one would at least register.

I'm a OD user, WXP SP3.

I meant confirmed to the activation issue.

From "Panic Button":

1: Icon Packager

IconPackager 4 was released yesterday.  This is a new product on the store, “IconPackager 4”.  IconPackager 4 is $19.95.

There is also an “IconPackager 4 (Upgrade)” with Product ID ESD-SDS-W424 for $9.95.

Users who purchased IconPackager since February 1, 2007 get it for free.  There’s an email going out to those customers right now so you should have it already if this applies to you. Be sure to check your spam filters if you purchased after Feb 1st but have not gotten an email. If you still find nothing please contact sales@stardock.com.

Both items can be found at https://www.stardock.com/products/iconpackager/purchase.asp

And both products have been added to the list of eligible products to upgrade to Object Desktop from, at https://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/odnt-upgrade.asp

This update corrects multiple bugs as well as the activation issue that many people were experiencing. If you are able to please update to this version of the software.

Should you still be having troubles with Stardock Central or Impulse asking you to register or activate please try the following.

Impulse: Click the "?" help button in the top right corner
-Click Open XMLs Folders (Public)
-Click anywhere in the window that opens up then press Crtl+a to select everything
-Press delete to delete all the files in that folder
-Close the folder
-Close Impulse and then restart it again.

Stardock Central:
     -Go to Tools->Settings
     -Click the Internet section
-Click the "Refresh XML Data" button
Run this program: http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/clear_cache_sdc.bat

This seems rather funny.. It is 4.0.163 that causes the activation issues, at least in my case.

I don't dare to install IP now, I guess I'll wait and see. Continously restoring disk images is too timeconsuming.
I've had bad experiences with both Impulse and IconPackager today (Restored a disk image between the two, and yet again after failing IP4), and I guess that's enough.

I've run into another problem in x64 now. I went to uninstall IP to fix an Icon problem I had been having (music icons wouldnt go back to default when the theme was applied, fixed by resetting WMP to the default media program). When I uninstalled IP through Impulse and rebooted 90% of my icons where blank. I luckily resolved the issue by loading up SDC and doing a full reinstall, opening IP then immediately closing it, followed by uninstalling it through SDC. This seems to be a bug with Impulse's uninstall process.

OK, now I'm having the activate problem as well, tried all above.

If you activate IconPackager, IconExplorer then asks, activate that and try and open IconPackager you're back to the activate pop up again.

ODU subscription expires 2009, I've also added this to my earlier ticket.
How long before you get locked out for trying to activate.

How long before you get locked out for trying to activate.

Can this happen??
Then this problem is serious in more ways than making the software totally unusable..

I've just tried the procedure regarding SDC and IP 4 refered by Zubaz (quoted from Panic Button), still no dice (as expected), so I had to restore image yet again..
It gets rather tiresome.

I've got lots of anger and frustration to display over this, but I'm keeping it to myself.. Use your imagination.

Reverted to 3.99.149 again.

/offtopic
Btw, why do I always get an error when accessing this forum (for each and every page)through SDC saying:
Line 1137,Char 1,'_gat' is undefined,Code 0

It's annoying.. and has been for months.
WXP SP3 IE7 fully updated.

Oh yes, indeedy it can. It's happened to me 3 or 4 times in the past year with Deskscapes. Not the paid-for premium deskscapes; they're fine. When I end up reinstalling Deskscapes because it's broken on me, one of the 3 (never the same one) will nag me to activate then tell me I've exceeded the number of activations.

If you do run into the error 6 activation error please simply contact support. A rep can then look at your account, verifiy that the serial number is not shared or compromised and reset you. It's pretty easy and we are happy to do it for you. Please let us know at support@stardock.com.

If you have any further issues or questions please let me know.

This is at least good news
I've just sent a request due to my problems activating IP4 as mentioned
earlier in this thread.

on May 20, 2008
Did an update via Impulse today and voila, it wants my registration info upon starting (OD Ultimate Owner here). Can You please get glitches like this right for the future ?
on May 20, 2008
Uninstalled, reinstalled, now I am stuck with those ugly default icons as IP still won't work without activation...
on May 20, 2008
Has there been any fix yet for the activation problem with Icon Packager/Icon Explorer ?

I have tried activating by running each program as a Administrator got them working but on close and reopen it wants to activate again for some reason it isn't creating the sig.bin file. I get the error message
"Stardock Product Activation could not write the activation signature"

on May 20, 2008
OK, so now I want to be a squeaky data point.

Please, *Please*, PLEASE fix this activation issue. I can't change icons for file types in Windows Explorer or any other file manager because of this.

At least a workaround exists: go into the full IP GUI and make the changes there. However, that is inconvenient for this situation: coming across a new or a used-to-be-rare-on-my-system-but-now-I-use-it-a-lot file type whose icon needs changing.
